Bob is a Grand Haven native, getting an early start in music with piano lessons in 1st grade. He further pursued his interest in music by joining band in 5th grade on trombone. After four years as a trombone major at Interlochen Arts Academy, Bob earned his diploma in 1983. While attending Central Michigan University, he focused on bass trombone, playing with top jazz and concert bands. He was also in the Marching Chips for 5 years; two seasons as the baritone section leader. Bob received his BME degree in 1988. During the summers, he was a counselor/trombone instructor at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and performed with faculty ensembles. After 4 years in public school instrumental music, Bob returned to his roots in Grand Haven in 1993.
In more recent years, from 2006-2010, Bob ran his own business, Prevailing Winds, offering wind instrument instruction and repair. He is the Founder/Director of the Prevailing Winds Community Band (Grand Haven) since 2008. His inspiration for the community band came from the Zeeland Community Band, which he directed for three years. He has also performed with many west Michigan ensembles, including the Scottville Clown Band.
Bob welcomes any opportunity to share his musical experience and expertise with the community, EVERYDAY!
