For our instructor, Travis Hyma, music goes all the way back to when he was 13 years old and he picked up his first guitar. After obsessively learning the basics in the corner of his bedroom, Travis moved onto the stage of his local church where he found a deep passion for performing. Carrying that passion into a career he went on to attend Grand Valley State University where he graduated with a degree in Classical Guitar performance.

Travis has been playing in bands and teaching for nearly 20 years, and currently plays for the likes of Kanin Wren and Robert Hawkins! He specializes in finger-style, classical, CCM, and pop rock, but has taught and played nearly every genre imaginable. When he’s not playing music you can find him outdoors with his family most likely foraging for mushrooms and exploring the lakeshore!
